Hyundai’s big bad-boy in new avatar

It is a car which requires no introduction, it has been a segment dominator since its birth and also has acquired the largest market share in the SUV market. The car we are talking about is none other than the Hyundai CRETA. First launched in 2014, since then this car has been always a go to thing for the customers without a doubt. But lately this car has been losing its sales against its rival, The KIA SELTOS. So to grab its position back, Hyundai has come up with a new generation of CRETA calling it “THE ULTIMATE SUV” with loads of engine options and features to grab the eyes of its customers. Is it Better than the Original? Let’s find out !

I’m going to categorize the review into different parameters so that it would be easier for you guys to gaze upon it quickly.

1) Design

New CRETA comes with an edgy design and muscular stance having a big chunky grill in front with a grey finish and chrome topping. The headlights come in a new trio configuration with DRLs which is eye catching. On the sides it has 17inch multi-structured alloy wheels. It has a big C-pillar shoulder which embeds the roofline to the rear.

The rear also features the same trio format for taillights with crisp LED lights and the top light strip has been moved to the center which makes the rear resemble with ROBOCOP from Hollywood movie also & it incorporates a twin tip exhaust (For Turbo only).

2) Performance

If you are a car fanatic, you would be excited to dive under the hood and see the amount of muscle this bad boy packs. Talking about performance, this compact beast comes with 3 gasoline (including 1 automatic) and 2 diesel options.

The naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol and diesel engine produces 115HP and the turbo petrol produces 140HP which is similar to its rival SELTOS. All these engines are punchy, refined, smooth and churn out sufficient power to pull the car effortlessly. It also has paddle shifter (1st in its segment) which would surely be loved my audience who want their car to perform as per their wish. The powertrain options you can opt for as per models are as follows :

2020 version of CRETA comes with 3 Driving Modes options (Eco, Comfort and Sport) .These modes adjusts the car’s performance and drivability according to respective modes. The added feature is Traction Control for customizable and fun driving on different terrains such as Snow, Sand and Mud.

So now, finally the question comes that every Indian is concerned about, “Kitna Deti Hai?”

The mileage figures are as follows:

Petrol (Manual / Automatic) – 16.8 kmpl

Diesel (Manual) – 21.4 kmpl, Automatic- 18.5 kmpl

3) Interiors

The interior is as appealing as always with all black interior with a red lining on the A/C vents. The whole infotainment system, A/C controls, all nibs n knobs are secured beautifully in this waterfall patterned structure which extends to the gear lever.
Car comes with a 10.24inch infotainment system which has a clear and crisp display connected with Bose Premium Sound System (8 speakers) for an ultimate, sound music experience.

The car also has Ambient Lighting System which you can just adjust according to your mood. So Great Lighting + Soothing Music would provide a Luxurious feeling inside the cabin. Creta comes with a big Panaromic Sunroof with which can make the cabin bright and airy and is a sureshot crowd pleaser.

It has soft, comfortable leather stitched ventilated seats (which will keep you cool and comfortable in this hot, scorching summer heat) providing a good thigh support and headroom also is pretty adequate even for the tall passengers and the car also has headrest cushioning (1st in segment). You’ll also find the LCD instrument cluster sitting perfectly in the binnacle which would definitely grab the eyes.

BlueLink Technology

Blue Link is a dynamic and innovative connected car solution that combines safety and remote functionality into a complete package. It helps simplify the life of car owners and offers convenience at the push of a button!

The system utilizes mobile apps to allow the customer to Remote Start, Stop, Lock or Unlock their car. It also has the ability to immobilize the vehicle if carjacked. All of this is tied together with voice recognition.

To sum it up I would say it’s carrying your car controls in your pockets!

4) Safety

This is a vital aspect which we consider while buying a car as we’re aware of Indian roads and Driving habits. So the car comes with the following safety features:

  • Boasting strong body Structure comprising of Advanced high steel strength.
  • Dual Airbags with ABS, EBD (standard across all variants)
  • Hill-Start Control Assist.
  • Rear parking Sensors and Camera.
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Vehicle Stability Management.
  • 1st in class- Rear Disc Brakes.

The car comes with a price tag of Rs.9.99-17.20 lakh (Ex-showroom India). Some will say it’s overpriced, but looking at all the package and the competition we can bet on the odds that this car has all the potential and power to be the champion again !
